Córdoba City (see map)
Popularly known as “La Docta”, Córdoba is the Capital City of the namesake province. This historical city was built when there was the desire of linking the Alto Peru region with the River Plate basin along the so-called Camino Real (Royal Path).
Córdoba is the second biggest city in Argentina and the most important one in the central region of the country. Its relief is characterized by a slight slope towards the Sierras Chicas in the Suquía River valley. Average maximum and minimum temperatures range between 24º C and 11º C.
One can fly directly into Pajas Blancas, the city’s International Airport.
It is a tourist destination because of its history and impressive landscapes and has attractive and surprising places for visitors.
Córdoba is called La Docta because of its important universities, and also “Ciudad de las Campanas” (The City of Bells) because Franciscans and Dominicans built many churches in the area.
It has both the typical attractions of big cities and a lifestyle that brings one into contact with nature.
Along the streets and avenues, one can admire colonial architecture as well as modern buildings and lots of green areas such as Parque Sarmiento, which was designed at the end of the 19th Century.
Córdoba is also an important industrial center with a strong metallurgical sector. The most outstanding factories are the Military Aircraft Factory and the Kaiser and Fiat plants.
Tourists can go on amusing tours that include San Martin Square, the hundred-year-old Cathedral, the historical Cabildo (Chapter House), Trejo’s House and many different museums.
Only a few kilometers away from Córdoba City, tourists can go on quad excursions, mountain biking or practice paragliding in one of the most beautiful regions of Argentina.
Moreover, nightlife in Córdoba has many cultural and entertainment alternatives.
It is a city to be fully enjoyed.
